This drug is used to treat certain eye allergies (vernal keratoconjunctivitis, vernal conjunctivitis, vernal keratitis). This medicine prevents itching in the eyes which can occur in this condition. Lodoxamide is known as a mast cell stabilizer. It works by blocking certain natural substances (histamine, leukotriene) which cause allergic symptoms.
To apply eye drops, wash your hands first. To avoid contamination, do not touch the tip of the pipette or allow it to touch your eyes or other surfaces. Do not wear contact lenses when using this medicine. This drug is usually used 4 times a day or as directed by a doctor. Treatment can be continued for 3 months. Tilt your head back, look up, and pull down the lower eyelid to make the bag. Hold the dropper directly above your eyes and place 1 drop in the bag. Look down and slowly close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes. Place one finger in the corner of the eye near the nose and do a gentle massage. This will prevent the drug from flowing out. Try not to blink and don't rub your eyes. Repeat this step if your dose is more than 1 drop and for other eyes if so directed.
Do not rinse the pipette. Change the dropper cap after use. If you use other types of eye medications (for example, drops or ointments), wait at least 5 minutes before applying other drugs. Use eye drops before eye ointment to allow eye drops to enter the eye. Use this medication regularly to get the optimal benefits. To help you remember, take this medicine at the same time every day. Keep using this medicine according to the doctor's prescription. If immediate assistance is needed, use other rapid medications (such as eye drops containing antihistamines, decongestants, or NSAID anti-inflammatory drugs) together with lodoxamide as directed by your doctor. Tell your doctor if your condition remains the same or worsens.
